The African National Congress (ANC) in the Cape Town Council states that the Democratic Alliance (DA) is trying to hide the alleged wrongdoing by its two members. These comments were triggered by a report presented last week by the law firm Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr on alleged nepotism and abuse of authority under the guidance of the DA.
The report states that a mayoral committee member for security and safety, JP Smith, and Richard Bosman, committed offenses, and describes the alleged violations in connection with the appointment of Robbie Roberts as director of police and law enforcement in detail.
The ANC assembly leader Xolani Sotashe says that the district attorney is trying to cover-up these findings. “The money was paid to this independent investigation team to investigate this issue, and now that they are publishing a comprehensive damn report, the same city, Cape Town, cancels its report and says it is less serious.” However, Smith says that he received a letter from the board speaker for Dirk Smith, in which he clears him of any dishonest game.
“I am in receipt of a letter from the speaker of council who has already concluded his investigation into this matter in that the information was available to him for some time and the letter exonerates me of any wrongdoing. The speaker concluded that the matter is now closed and that there are no disciplinary findings pertaining to myself.”
