The South Africa Department of Social Development urges university students to be proactive and report any detected cases of gender-based violence as well as substance abuse.
Those advices were voiced during an exhibition held by the dept as CPUT orientation week has started these days.
It’s said that drug and sexual abuse issues have continued to be in a neglect state at universities as lots of campuses across the country did not provide any channels for young people to be heard.
Students in turn asked authorities to provide competent social workers to universities, whose job would be to help learners in need of counselling.
In relation to drug regulation problem, the department previously launched an anti-substance abuse campaign, which has been assisting students since December 2018. Attendants can also provide any information about such crimes through a National Emergency Response Team’s online platform via WhatsApp.
