The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape welcomed the high turnout in the province during voter registration last weekend. “We conducted a massive blitz registration throughout the province during the voter registration weekend,” said Gift Ngqondi, head of the ANC Eastern Cape communications department.
Ngqondi said that the ANC notes that, according to IEC, 703,794 new voters were registered, and approximately 81% (574,899) were under 30 years old.
“We are encouraged by the fact that we are the third province in the country with 130,959 new registrations. By the number of voters, our province ranks third among the registered voters (3,365,821 or 12.6%), ”he said.
“Nelson Mandela Bay is the highest region in the province with new registrations at 14,084, and then in Buffalo at 10,113.” Ngqondi said that so many young South Africans are participating in the political life of their country, this is a rejection of the simplistic and reactionary narration that “displeased youth” is being traded by some opposition parties. “Speaking in their ranks, young South Africans reaffirm their confidence that the bulletin is a tool for continuing the ongoing project of socio-economic transformations towards a better life for all,” he added.
“The youth of our country listened to the call of the ANC to become part of the future of this country. “Registration is still open until the election date is announced. “We urge all communities that are unhappy with service delivery issues not to wait for processes such as voter registration, while there are many platforms to solve their problems. “Our doors are open to any problems that our communities face to participate.”
