South African President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed condolences to the people of Brazil in connection with the disaster that occurred at the dam in south-eastern Minas Gerais.
“As the people of South Africa, we join the people of Brazil in mourning the loss of their loved ones. Our prayers are with you and we hope those yet to be found will be recovered as soon as possible,” said Ramaphosa.
On Friday, as a result of the dam collapse, with the latter belonging to the Vale mining company, 60 people were killed and hundreds were missing. A rescue operation was carried out at the scene. Therefore, it was found out that more than half of the missing were employees of Vale.
In addition, some Brazilian residents are also known to be missing.
Most of the suffered workers were in the dining room at the time of the dam collapse. A stream of mud allegedly carried the local hotel and dining room off.
At the moment, the incident is being investigated by the Brazilian government.
