A 33-year-old teacher from the Bryanston High School in Gauteng, whose name remains unrevealed in the interests of the investigation, was accused of sexual assault and arrested by the police.
According to mass media articles, a 17-year-old female pupil together with her family opened a case against him last week and appeared in the Alexandra Regional Court.
Furthermore, at least three female learners previously made similar allegations and School Governing Body speedily reacted with suspension. It’s believed that all of the incidents happened between 2017 and 2018, during some of the netball matches.
Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi in a statement has praised Bryanston SGB for its quick actions, saying he was impressed by its efficiency. A psycho-social unit has been already deployed to the school to help the victims of the crime, he confirmed.
“An investigation by an independent law firm is finalised, and as such, his [suspect’s] hearing is scheduled on February 5-6, 2019. The matter is also under investigation by the SAPS,” Lesufi added.
