Renown unionist and former National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) president Cedric Gina died on Monday morning. According to the source, he was suffering from a prolonged illness and passed away in the Addington hospital in Durban.
Gina has been working as the leader of Numsa for 5 years — from 2008 till 2013. Previously he explained the decision of retirement by unhappiness with the direction the organization was taking.
He was also Former Liberated Metalworkers Union of SA (Limusa) founding general secretary and a ANC member.
“Cedric has dedicated most of his life to the working-class struggle and labour movement in particular. Cedric was the embodiment our alliance and … served structures of the SACP and the ANC,” said Limusa general secretary Siboniso Mdletshe.
