Kannaland residents have to use water more efficiently, following a warning by the by the Western Cape Environmental Affairs Department.
Local residents were asked to save water as Karoo suffers droughts.
According to the representatives of the Western Cape Environmental Affairs Department, the level of water consumption in Zoar is too high, and it is unacceptable in current conditions.
According to the department spokesman James-Brent Styan, 170 liters of water per person are used daily in the region, although it would be beneficial to reduce the amount to 50 liters.
“We have noticed that water consumption does remain quite high and if people reduced it to at least 50 litres per day and that would go a long way to alleviating pressure on water resources,” stressed James-Brent Styan.
Styan pointed out that the department had placed seven water tanks in Zoar, which would stay there until reservoirs were replenished by groundwater.
