The Labour Court in Johannesburg has ordered the Laerskool Schweizer-Reneke teacher, Elana Barkhuizen, to return to work on Friday as all suspension against her has been declared unlawful.
Judge Connie Prinsloo who led the processing on Thursday, has found the labor process was incorrected as Barkhuizen has not been given an opportunity to express herself.
Provincial Education MEC Sello Lehari claimed he was not acting out of his power when suspension was made. Now he decided not to oppose the application.
Barkhuizen thanked everyone who helped justice to be brought:
“For every step, for every day for every part of this journey… I don’t know how to thank everyone”
The scandal broke out when a picture with black pupils sitting separately from white ones became viral. It was later discovered that incident happened during Grade R lesson at the Laerskool Schweizer-Reneke in the North West.
