The Department of International Cooperation and Relations (Dirco) wants to get to the bottom of Andre Hanekom’s mysterious death. On Wednesday morning, the former SA resident and businessman, who was arrested on the charges related to terrorism, suffered an unknown decease and passed away in custody in Pemba, Mozambique.

Minister Lindiwe Sisulu instructed the South African High Commissioner in Mozambique, Mandisi Mpahlwa, to work through the questions about the incident and find out any additional circumstances, Dirco said in a statement.

It was also confirmed that high commissioner would assist the family in receiving 61-year-old’s body.

In the upcoming days, the details will be published regarding the matter, the officials added.
