The Limpopo Provincial Government seeks to open a giant marula industrial hub in Lephalale at the time 15th Annual Marula Festival begins, said in a statement made on Wednesday. According to this, the zone will be fully competed until February 2020.
Once it is done, the hub will help local farmers and businessmen join the marula value chain as well as assist authorities, who want this famous fruit to be promoted and used outside of the alcohol sector. The hub as an industrial park with giant market place will also bring a platform, where further Marula Festival will be held.
“Today, the Limpopo Marula Festival contributes in excess of R45 million to the local economy of Ba-Phalaborwa and the Mopani District through general trade and also generates more than 500 job opportunities for the local communities, a figure that should be doubled in the next three years,” the Limpopo MEC for Economic Development and Tourism, Seaparo Sekoati, said.
Moreover, the festival appears to be the biggest tourist event in the area, summoning travelers not only from the region but many guests from abroad.
