The Pretoria police will monitor the situation in Mamelodi after a conflict between local residents. It is noted that the conflict broke out because of recently built hostels, the property for which was defended by a group of fifty people with weapons.

Armed men demanded that the residents of the hostels, many of whom are citizens of foreign countries, leave the premises. According to demanding citizens, foreigners settled in the hostel illegally. According to the police, no one was injured during the conflict:

“The councillor in that ward and the officials are there negotiating to find solutions on how it should be allocated. As police we’re monitoring for any violence,” Johannes Mahesu, police spokesperson, noted.
