The South African Arts and Culture Ministry has stated that the Bo-Kaap area may become a national heritage site in two years.
As the Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa said, the process of establishing Bo-Kaap’s national heritage will be led by the South African Heritage Resource Agency.
As follows from the answer of the UNESCO spokesperson Asanda Magaqa to the request of Nathi Mthethwa, the process may last from one to two years:
“The process of the South African Heritage Resource Agency is one that, unlike that of Unesco, can take less than two years. It can take a year if there’s no problems or no challenges, is one that can be expected to be reasonably swift,” Magaqa stressed.
