Killer who gunned down SA taxi association chairperson sentenced to life imprisonment

The Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg sentenced 52-years-old Simphiwe Mcunukeli, who was previously accused to be the hitman behind the Stilfontein taxi association chairperson’s death.

According to an official statement, murderer will spend the rest of his life in prison. Moreover, he got additional 9 years for illegal carrying of weapons.

According to the reports, killer was paid approximately R50 000 for murdering 59-years-old Nyamezeli Jeffrey Bambani.

Mcunukeli was arrested by city police officers in September 2016. However, after several days in jail he was released on R5 000 bail by the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court and quickly tried to escape justice. During joint operation held in May 2017 police bring Mcunukeli back in custody.
