The chair of Tshwane mayor will shortly be empty as Solly Msimanga, current city major, is going to announcement his retirement, local mass media says on Friday. It is believed that council speaker Katlego Mathebe will replace Msimanga on his post, however, the exact candidate has not been revealed yet.
Solly Msimanga, the member of the Democratic Alliance, was chosen to be a Tshwane first citizen through municipal elections held in 2016. It has been the first time in the history of the city since the dawn of democracy when ANC members have not taken the leader post.
According to the articles, today many members of opposition, community as well as Msimanga’s party do not want him to be a mayor, questioning his leadership skills and proposed program.
