Agri Western Cape said the constant threat of a load shedding could cause serious consequences for the South Arfican agricultural sector, as well as lead to job losses.

The day before, the company spoke at the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) and discussed the 15% annual electricity price increase undertaken by the state company Eskom.

Carl Opperman, Agri Western Cape spokesperson, said that it was necessary to intervene in the actions of the electricity giant, and offered to sell off some of its assets.

According to Opperman, agriculture is currently experiencing the effects of drought, and the lack of electricity will affect farmers’ activities.
