On Monday, January 15, a meeting between the South African government and agricultural sector will reveal the impact of the foot and mouth disease outbreak in Limpopo.

It is known that as a precaution, some regions closest to South Africa have suspended the importation of meat.

“The sector, especially those who are importing red meat, has suffered a huge blow because many countries have decided to ban our meat and as a consequence of that the sector is severely suffering, so it has been important for the minister to meet with the top owners,” the Agriculture Department’s Khaye Nkwanyana said.

Earlier, the Gauteng Provincial Government urged livestock breeders to be more careful when handling their flocks and avoid cattle of unknown origin and, therefore, disease status.
