The meeting between the government and representatives of the agricultural sector, that took place on Monday, January 14, discussed the consequences of a foot and mouth disease outbreak in Limpopo.
According to Agriculture Minister Senzeni Zokwana, the department will be able to restrain the outbreak in the Vhembe District of Limpopo. Zokwana said that the Agriculture department created a plan to combat the outbreak of FMD in the area.
In addition, Zokwana turned to the locals and said that they had no reason to be concerned. The department claims that vaccinations are being carried out in the affected area.
Earlier, several neighboring countries have refused to import South African meat. The decision was made out of caution after tracing the disease.
