The upgraded space weather center in Overstrand was chosen by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) as the weather information center for all flights arriving and departing from the continent.
Minister of Science and Technology, Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane, said that SANSA was noticed after the launch of the ZACube-2, the most innovative nanosatellite on the continent. Kubayi-Ngubane stressed that South Africa continued to be a leader in the most unexpected areas for a developing country.
“SANSA has been selected by ICAO to become the designated regional provider of space weather information to the entire aviation sector using African airspace,” Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane noted.
