Deputy President of South Africa David Mabuza arrived to Ethiopia as the Special Envoy to South Sudan to talk with local politicians about bringing peace to the Republic of South Sudan. On several day’s agenda Mabuza is going to meet Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed Ali, who is also the chairperson of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
“The working visit to Ethiopia by Deputy President Mabuza takes place in the context of strengthening the ongoing political efforts geared towards finding lasting peace and development for the people of South Sudan,” said in a statement on Monday.
South Sudan got independence from Sudan in 2011. Since that time, the internal civil war has been ravaging its territory, resulting in thousands people being killed and millions more fleeing. Last autumn both stakeholders concluded and signed the Revitalised Peace Agreement as one of the steps towards resolving internecine problems.
