Madagascar’s Constitutional Court declared Andry Rajoelina the legitimate president of the republic.
Earlier his rival Marc Ravalomanana, who lost the election with 44% of votes, had complained about massive fraud happening during the election process and petitioned the court.
“Andry Rajoelina is declared the elected president of the republic,” Judge Jean-Eric Rakotoarisoa said.
The court’s decision was followed by huge celebrations among Rajoelina’s supporters and stalwarts in the capital Antananarivo.
Both opponents are former presidents who suspended their campaigns in the 2013 election after a joint agreement.
