Despite lots of Gauteng pupils being placed in schools in recent days, the issue still remains urgent. According to Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi’s, there are approximately 8000 pupils who have not started their lessons yet.
“We had 24 000 [pupils who were not placed] by yesterday (Tuesday). Of the 24 000, this morning almost 11 700 were given spaces and they went in classrooms and have started to learn,” he said.
The local government wants to resolve this challenge by adding more primary schools in the region. Today one of them was opened in Tsakane. As Lesufi said, this school is among the most progressive institutions for educating children in Gauteng.
