A 37-year-old criminal was arrested by the Hawks unit in Limpopo last Friday. The captured man is believed to be involved in a crime scheme with car smuggling across the border. He tried to escape on a stolen car with an accomplice but the plan failed as the officers caught him at Hendrik Verwoerd Tunnel near Musina.
«The Hawks acted swiftly on intelligence received regarding two vehicles (a Ford Everest and Chevrolet Cruze) that were allegedly stolen in Gauteng province [and were] en route to Zimbabwe, » provincial Hawks spokesperson captain Matimba Maluleke, said.
Police keep searching for the second criminal and investigating an opened case. The arrested man is expected to appear before the Makhado Magistrate’s Court.
