The City of Ekurhuleni had averted «imminent danger» after partial collapse of dam walls at Middle Lake in Benoni, city’s major Mzwandile Masina said.
«A well-coordinated joint operation between all spheres of government … has helped to avoid a catastrophic disaster that would have cost lives and serious damaged to the infrastructure, » Masina stated
Today, engineers keep on repairing cracks in the structure while water levels are lowered. Some of the roads such as Tom Jones Road and Bunyan Street will remain closed because of the operations.
The government urges residents to be patient as suction pumps are being placed. All roads will be opened thereafter.
